Born in 1990, Nakrob Moonmanas is a visual artist based in Bangkok, primarily working with Thai literature and history as well as their discourse and relations to the global narrative. His focus centers on exploring memories of Thai visual arts and cultures through the process of collage, as he endeavors to unveil and question them in various forms and dimensions. Infused with a contemporary aesthetic, the juxtaposition of local and exotic fragments creates an alternative chronicle, prompting a reexamination of the past. It nudges viewers to traverse through whispers of scenes that one might only partially remember, a distant murmur from an elusive past.
In 2020-2021, Moonmanas was a laureate of the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. His artist residency in Paris was supported by the Institut français and the Embassy of France in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2022, he was awarded GQ magazine Thailand’s Artist of the Year.
The artist held solo exhibitions such as ‘Sacrifice’ at People’s Gallery in Bangkok Arts and Cultural Centre in 2017 and ‘Coronet’ at Thonglor Art Space in 2018. Moonmanas also participated in group exhibitions, including ‘In-betweenness’ at The Prelude One Bangkok in 2019. In 2022, he exhibited in ‘The Immeasurable and World’s End at JWD Art Space’ and ‘Artificial Nature’ at Warin Lab Contemporary. In the same year, he held a solo exhibition “Timirbhu: the New World Order” at Jim Thompson Art Center, Bangkok.
In 2024, he collborated with Chitti Kasemkitvatana for the project “Our Place In Their World” for “The Spirits Of Maritime Crossing”, a collateral event in the 60th Venice Biennale. He also presented two works; one at Siwamokhaphiman Hall, National Museum Bangkok, and other at the Northern Chapel in the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, as part of Bangkok Biennale 2024.
