Pratchaya Charernsook

BIOGRAPHY

Pratchaya Charernsook (b. 1997, Chumphon, Thailand) has been incorporating ocean waste and microplastics into her artistic practice since her college years. Her practice is driven by her ongoing interest in Hat Sai Ri Beach, a well-known tourist destination in her hometown of Chumphon. The area faces increasing environmental pressures from ocean waste, which has drastically altered its natural landscape.

Pratychaya’s process begins with collecting trash from the shoreline and later expands to everyday waste gathered from other locations. Through the act of creation, the artist examines the accelerated transformation of the environment and its effect on local communities. In this way, her work questions the role of humans as active catalysts in the prevailing waste crisis.

The artist holds both BFA and MFA degrees from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University. She has received numerous honors, including the Winner of Regional 2023 Southeast Asia Painting of The Year (2023), Winner of the 14th UOB Painting of the Year Award, Established Artist Category (2023),  Bronze Medal Award in Multimedia at the 69th National Exhibition of Art (2024),  and more.

Pratchaya has presented solo exhibitions in Thailand at Art4C Art Centre (2023), the People’s Gallery, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (2023), Saratta Space (2024), and The Meeting Room Art Gallery (2024). She has also participated in group exhibitions both in Thailand and internationally, including Patani Art Space (Thailand, 2024), Noble PLAY (Thailand, 2025), Turchin Center for the Visual Arts (USA, 2025), and Art Basel (Hong Kong, 2025).
